Candlelight to host a special concert in Johannesburg in celebration of South Africa’s National Women’s Day
Fever’s iconic Candlelight series presents an inspiring string tribute performed by Serendipity Strings, an ensemble of South Africa’s finest women musicians
In honor of South Africa’s National Women’s Day, Candlelight®, the acclaimed concert series by Fever, will present a special performance on August 9th at NH Johannesburg Sandton, featuring the renowned all-female string quartet, Serendipity Strings.
Established in 2015, Serendipity Strings is a dynamic string quartet based in Pretoria, celebrated for its emotive performances and eclectic repertoire spanning from classical masters such as Haydn and Shostakovich to contemporary favorites. Composed of Carli D’Alebout (violin), Carmi Viljoen (violin), Friederike Scholtz (viola), and Mietze Dill (cello), the ensemble’s recent programs highlight the work of female composers, thoughtfully paired with enduring classical masterpieces. Having captivated audiences in over 150 cities worldwide, Candlelight continues its mission to democratize access to high-quality live music by transforming extraordinary venues into intimate performance spaces. For this edition, the focus shifts beyond genre to honor the artistry, leadership, and resilience of women in music, in alignment with the spirit of Women’s Day in South Africa.
For this occasion, the group will perform Candlelight® Queen vs. ABBA, a tribute to two of pop-rock’s most iconic bands. The program will include beloved hits such as Dancing Queen, Waterloo, or Mamma Mia by ABBA, as well as Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, and Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen, among many others.
Candlelight® is a global concert series that has captivated over 3 million attendees across more than 150 cities worldwide. Its mission is to democratize access to classical music by bringing it to new audiences in breathtaking venues, all illuminated by thousands of candles.
This special performance will take place at NH Johannesburg Sandton, a centrally located venue known for its modern style and welcoming atmosphere.
