A multi-sensory musical experience showcasing classical music to every taste, including tributes to the greatest composers and best hits of contemporary artists
Leading entertainment discovery platform Fever today announces the launch of its critically acclaimed Candlelight Concert series in four new Australian cities, with the first concerts scheduled for September 24 and October 21 at Canberra’s National Art Gallery.
After delighting more than 90 cities worldwide with performances in various spectacular locations, the Candlelight Concert series will also launch in the cities of Geelong, Newcastle and Hobart in a bid to democratize access to culture and classical music, boost visibility for local musicians, and celebrate our unique Australian venues.
With sessions at 6:30pm and 8:30pm, Canberra’s first Candlelight Concerts will feature local string quartet ensemble Phoenix Collective’s rendition of Hans Zimmer’s greatest film scores including This Land from The Lion King; Cornfield Chase from Interstellar; Tennessee from Pearl Harbor; Time from Inception and more.
Current and previous Australian Candlelight Concerts include Film Scores at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium; Best of Aretha Franklin at The Grounds of Alexandria, Sydney; Orchestra: Best of Joe Hisaishi at Freemasons Hall, Adelaide; Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at St. John’s Cathedral, Brisbane; and Best of Fleetwood Mac at Wesley Uniting Church, Perth.
Tickets can be purchased on the Fever App via Apple Store and Google Play, or on the Fever website.
Often referred to as an elitist and inaccessible genre, classical music has long been considered out-of-reach for many. When launched in New York, Madrid and Paris, in 2019, the Candlelight Concerts’ main focus was to showcase the music of composers such as Vivaldi, Chopin or Beethoven, and to bring traditional classical music closer to a new demographic to which it wouldn’t typically appeal. Fast forward to today, where over 70% of Candlelight Concert attendees are under the age of 40 - most of whom have never attended a classical music concert before.
Currently touring in over 90 cities across the globe, Fever’s ever-growing list of programmes feature a wide variety of themes and genres beyond classical, such as jazz, pop, film soundtracks and ballet, showcasing the best hits of contemporary artists including Queen, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Fleetwood Mac and more.
Fever is proud to create visibility and opportunities for fantastic musicians with a variety of qualifications and origins. These young, talented and local musicians bring the unique Candlelight Concert experience to life with their extraordinary musicianship.
Not only do they play the masterpieces of our greatest composers, but each musician believes in the power of classical music to reach audiences on a global scale, and lends their inimitable talent to performing contemporary soundtracks, pop and rock songs with their classical instruments.
Too often confined to traditional halls, and to a limited audience, the works of the greatest composers now resonate amongst unique, character-rich locations worldwide. Fever’s programmes have been performed in various idyllic venues, from rooftops with panoramic views to iconic cathedrals, aquariums, palaces, libraries and gardens. Thousands of candles are used to illuminate each venue, creating a serene atmosphere that transforms the listening experience to a multi-sensory adventure.
With the Candlelight Concerts, Fever will continue to create events that cultivate the city's unique venues; celebrate the greatest composers and local musicians; and contribute to democratizing culture for audiences from all walks of life.
