THE LAST STRONGHOLD – AN EPIC MEDIEVAL ADVENTURE ARRIVES IN SYDNEY THROUGH VIRTUAL REALITY

August 20 2025 | Sydney - Excurio, in co-production with the Centre des monuments nationaux and in partnership with Fever, invites visitors on a journey to the medieval era with the immersive expedition The Last Stronghold - An Epic Medieval Adventure. This groundbreaking virtual reality experience takes visitors back to the golden age of the city in the early 14ᵗʰ century. Equipped with a VR headset, visitors will be instantly transported into the fortified city as it stood in 1304.

For 45 minutes, the storyline leads them through the experience alongside the characters of Simon, a young nobleman, and Agnès, a rebellious townswoman, whom visitors will follow in a captivating storytelling. Guests will be transported into vibrant scenes of medieval life, from the bustling market to nighttime watch on the ramparts. This extraordinary experience allows guests to take part in their surroundings, from picking up a shield in combat, sipping wine, sampling market food, or stepping inside the private quarters of noble residences within the impenetrable fortress. Every moment immerses guests deeper into the Middle Ages as they become more alive than ever.

Carcassonne, an iconic medieval city that attracts millions of visitors each year and a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a majestic silhouette, restored by Viollet-le-Duc, to the renowned European attraction it is today. Beyond an imposing three-kilometre-long stronghold guarding the kingdom’s borders, Carcassonne holds a deeper story of a city shaped by its inhabitants living in the shadow of the inquisition that once dominated the region.

Drawing on the latest historical and architectural research validated by experts from the Centre des monuments nationaux, The Last Stronghold - An Epic Medieval Adventure, meticulously recreates the city at its peak with incredible attention to detail.
