Alcotraz - an interactive cocktail experience arrives in Sydney

Sydney | September 3, 2025 – Following its success and rave reviews in the UK, the masterminds at Inventive Productions along with leading entertainment platform Fever, today announce Alcotraz, an interactive theatrical experience, is coming to Sydney this spring. Drawing inspiration from popular Hollywood films and series’, Alcotraz combines the allure of a speakeasy-style cocktail bar with the excitement of immersive theatre and storylines. This adventure into the world of interactive storytelling and creative cocktails will open its doors to the public at 12-16 Chippen Street, Chippendale this October.

Alcotraz is a totally unique experience for cocktail and mocktail enthusiasts and thrill seekers alike, offering patrons the chance to become part of the story that unfolds.  As part of the experience, guests will be led to their cell and given their own unique inmate number and orange jumpsuit to wear for the duration of their sentence. 

Guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in the storyline where they can expect to encounter a cast of crooked guards, shady characters and the jail’s notorious bootlegging gang who will serve them four delicious cocktails (or mocktails if preferred), beer, or wine.  And ‘prisoners’ who manage to win the favour of the crooked guards will gain access to explore secret areas to hatch an escape plan with their gang, or the Warden’s Office to negotiate their escape.

Those who opt for cocktails can expect a menu of expertly crafted tipples designed to break all the rules. Highlights include the vodka-based Crime of Passion, with passionfruit liqueur, strawberry purée, lime, cranberry and orange - a sweet yet sharp concoction that seduces with every sip. Not to mention the dangerously smooth Conspiracy - a smoky-sweet combination of premium mezcal, burnt coconut tequila, chocolate butter, pineapple, and a hint of cinnamon for a full-blown flavour heist!

Whether it's a birthday bash, hens or bucks event, corporate celebration or quirky date night, Alcotraz will transport guests to a world previously unseen and throw them into the centre of a theatrical storyline filled with photo opportunities. If you are celebrating a special occasion, there is also the opportunity to become a character such as The Mole or The Janitor and see your friend, colleague or loved one at the centre of the drama that unfolds. 

Alcotraz operates on both a ticketed and walk-in basis. As an intimate immersive cocktail experience with limited capacity, advance bookings are recommended, especially for guests who are keen to secure a coveted seat inside one of the prison cells or for larger groups looking to serve their sentence together. However, walk-ins are encouraged and will be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

The combination of creative and interactive actor-led storytelling, and delicious cocktails promises to be something totally new to the Sydney scene and an unforgettable night of thrills, spills, and entertainment.

Tickets for Alcotraz are available from October 10 and ticket prices start at $65 for the performance and a pre-set menu of four cocktails, mocktails, beer, or wine. Alcotraz opens to the public from 3 October 2025.
