Brisbane | February 2026 - Alcotraz, a bar inspired by Hollywood’s greatest prison stories, will open next month in Brisbane – offering an immersive cocktail experience that’s already built a cult following in London, Sydney and Melbourne.
Tickets for the new Alcotraz experience are available for purchase.
When the doors to Alcotraz in Brisbane open on March 20, 2026 guests will be able to do a stint behind bars where contraband cocktails rule and crooked guards run the show.
Created by the renowned UK immersive hospitality group Inventive Productions in partnership with live-entertainment platform Fever, Alcotraz is more than just a bar – it’s a theatre set you can drink inside.
Guests will be ‘processed’ on arrival at Alcotraz, issued an inmate number and orange jumpsuit to wear and ushered into a speakeasy-style cell block where the plot thickens with every round.
Inside, it’s part role-play, part cocktail bar designed to deliver a unique, immersive experience with a cast of guards, inmates and bootlegging accomplices steering the narrative while serving a menu of four cocktails (or mocktails, beer or wine).
The expertly crafted tipples will include the vodka-based Crime of Passion, with passionfruit liqueur, strawberry purée, lime, cranberry and orange - a sweet yet sharp concoction that seduces with every sip and the dangerously smooth Conspiracy - a smoky-sweet combination of premium mezcal, burnt coconut tequila, chocolate butter, pineapple, and a hint of cinnamon for a full-blown flavour heist!
“The venue, or set as we call it, looks incredible – and we’re sure Alcotraz will become one of Brisbane’s most Instagram-able and popular nights out. It will bring the global trend of immersive entertainment to Brisbane in a totally unique way. We’re taking it beyond just a themed bar fit out, to a full theatre style experience with costumes and actors helping to create something all-enveloping.
The immersive entertainment market has seen huge growth across sports, music and concerts, and we’re excited to bring this world-class immersive experience to Brisbane for the first time. With the boom in True-Crime culture and “dark tourism” sites – with the de-commissioned Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary being one of the most popular in the world - we will offer a lighter take on the growing trend with our new experience,” said Sam Shearman, Director of Inventive Productions.
Capitalising on the thirst for immersive entertainment, Brisbane won’t just be getting one immersive watering hole.
Less than a month after Alcotraz opens, the same team will debut the all-new Moonshine Saloon from April 10 - a Wild West-themed cocktail experience set during the American Prohibition. It will be the first iteration of the Moonshine Saloon in Australia, and the first outpost outside of London.
With an intersecting central character called Clyde Cassidy – the notorious king of the Moonshiners, the two experiences share an interconnected storyline and are designed to be experienced as a series — compelling guests to journey from the Wild West underworld to the inner workings of a smuggling empire behind bars.
Alcotraz will be the first to bring a ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ cocktail experience to Brisbane, closely followed by Moonshine Saloon when the doors swing open in April, with the venues set to operate side by side at the brand new Fever Hub venue in Fortitude Valley.
The ideal setting for birthday, anniversary, hens or bucks night celebrations, divorce parties after already “doing time”, corporate outings or a date with a plot twist, there’s even the option to cast a guest as an undercover mole or hapless character and drop them into the centre of the action.
Sessions run with limited capacity and are ticketed, though walk-ins will be accommodated where possible.
